Filing in context
This filing is one of 32 Toyota notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 573 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 months.
Issue
On vehicles certified under UN Regulation No. 16 (rear seat belt unbelted warning device), a defect in the control program causes the warning indicator for other rear seats to extinguish when a rear passenger fastens or unfastens their seat belt in rapid succession. As a result, the driver may be unable to correctly determine rear seat belt status from the warning indicators.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, the rear seat belt warning control program in the combination meter is updated to the corrected specification.
