Filing in context
The Suspension arm/rod is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 20 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 32 Toyota notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 35 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 1 month.
Defect
The ball joint mounting area of the front lower control arm was not designed with sufficient durability for exposure to deicing agents. In regions with heavy snowfall, frequent contact with deicing agents can cause corrosion and cracking at this location. Continued use allows the crack to propagate and, in the worst case, the lower arm may fracture, the ball joint may separate from the vehicle, and the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, both left and right lower control arms will be replaced with corrected parts. Because parts preparation requires time, owners will be contacted again once parts are available and the replacement will then be performed.
