Filing in context
This filing is one of 46 Toyota notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 113 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 10 months.
Defect
At the front pillar garnish mounting area, the retention clips have insufficient waterproof durability. Over time, water intrudes into the cabin and contacts the electrical connector in that area, causing a short circuit. This may result in malfunctions of the power door locks and related systems. In the worst case, on vehicles equipped with a power sliding door, the sliding door may open while the vehicle is in motion.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the front pillar garnish mounting clips with corrected parts. On vehicles equipped with a power sliding door, reprogram the power sliding door control module with the corrected software. If water intrusion is found on any connector, apply grease to the affected connector.
