Filing in context
The Fuel pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 37 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 46 Toyota notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 959 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 10 months.
Defect
Insufficient consideration during the design of the high-pressure fuel pump results in inadequate strength after press-fit assembly of internal components. During service use, the interior of the pump may experience wear and damage. This causes stress to concentrate at the pump weld joint, generating a crack that may progress to a fuel leak.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the serial number of the high-pressure fuel pump and, where applicable, replace it with the corrected/revised part.
