Filing in context
This filing is one of 23 Honda notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 345 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 8 months.
Issue
A design error in the circuit of the Integrated Control Unit (ICU) that controls the key interlock mechanism — which prevents key removal when the automatic transmission is in any position other than Park — allows the circuit to be influenced by the induced voltage from the fuel pump when the ignition is turned off. This delays activation of the key interlock solenoid. If the driver turns the ignition key quickly while the automatic transmission selector lever is in a position other than Park, the key may be removed. If the parking brake was not applied, the vehicle may roll while parked.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the Integrated Control Unit with the corrected part.
