Filing in context
The Headlamp is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 49 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 23 Honda notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 682 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with high-intensity discharge headlamps, the joint structure between the headlamp lens and housing is improperly designed, allowing the bonnet rubber seal to press against the lens and partially peel the sealant at the lens-to-housing joint. This allows water to enter the headlamp during rain or similar conditions. In the worst case, water reaches the headlamp control unit, causing a short circuit in the voltage control circuit and resulting in headlamp failure.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect headlamp illumination. Where a headlamp fails to illuminate, replace the control unit and add a retaining clip to the lens-to-housing joint. Where the headlamp illuminates, add a retaining clip to the joint.
