Defect

On hybrid vehicles, the metal protective cover of the DC-DC converter has insufficient strength. When a passenger applies load to the rear seatback, the cover flexes and may contact the insulating rubber caps on the electrical wiring terminals. Continued use may damage the insulating rubber caps and, in the worst case, cause a short circuit between the wiring terminals and the cover. This may blow the main fuse, causing the engine to stall and preventing restart.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, add a bracket and resin cover to the electrical wiring terminal area to prevent contact with the protective cover.
