Filing in context
The Body is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 108 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Honda notifications from 2011 in this archive. For scale, 3,235 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles.
Defect
The welds joining the side frame to the front lower cross member were improperly made during manufacturing, resulting in insufficient weld strength. Continued use allows driving vibration to detach the welds and displace the front lower cross member. In the worst case, the rear end of the lower arm securing the front wheels can pull free, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
Inspect the weld joints between the frame and the front lower cross member on all vehicles. Where welds have detached, perform sheet metal repair. Where cracks are present in the welds, re-weld the cracked areas. Where no detachment or cracks are found, add reinforcing rivets to the outer mating surface of the front lower cross member.
