Filing in context
The Computer (fuel system) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 3 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 13 Mazda notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 1,974 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 months.
Defect
On gasoline vehicles equipped with a regenerative braking system, variation in the noise filter characteristics of the fuel pump controller may cause the controller to misidentify normal current noise in the fuel pump circuit as overcurrent during engine restart from an idling stop, and incorrectly flag a fault. As a result, the engine warning lamp illuminates, the fuel pump stops operating, and the engine may stall.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the fuel pump controller software to one suited to the noise filter characteristics.
