Filing in context
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Electric Motor as the affected component. This filing is one of 19 Daihatsu notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 3,252 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 7 months.
Defect
Due to dimensional variation during manufacturing caused by inadequate machine control, the bearing section of the hybrid motor may be subjected to excessive load. This causes the bearing to generate heat, which degrades the grease in the bearing. Continued use in this condition may cause the engine to stall.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the motor with a corrected part and add shims to achieve proper clearance.
