Filing in context
The Turn Signal Indicator is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 7 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 19 Daihatsu notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 727 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 4 months.
Defect
The amber lens of the turn signal indicator in the rear combination lamp has insufficient weather resistance. Prolonged exposure to intense sunlight may gradually cause the amber color of the lens to fade. If use continues with a clear (white) bulb after fading occurs, the color of the lamp's light may no longer conform to Safety Standards.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the turn signal bulb with an amber bulb and affix a label to the back of the rear combination lamp indicating that an amber bulb must be used going forward. Because parts supply will require time, all owners will be notified of the lens fading issue and the remedy will be performed as soon as parts become available.
