Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 150 Mitsubishi notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 1,233 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 8 months.
Defect
The interior wiring harness is improperly routed and secured, causing it to contact the upper section of the clutch pedal during pedal operation and sustain damage. In the worst case, the wiring short-circuits, blowing a fuse and causing the headlamps or other lighting to fail or overheat.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, re-secure the affected wiring to a location where it cannot contact the clutch pedal. Inspect the wiring; repair any damaged sections where repair is possible, and replace with new wiring where repair is not possible.
