Filing in context
The Electrical System (Other) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 4 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 6 Suzuki notifications from 2002 in this archive. Defect
On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, the brake light switch uses contact material of an inappropriate specification. Electrical discharge between the contacts generates heat. In the worst case, the shaft may deform and the switch may cease to function, preventing release of the shift lock mechanism. Additionally, the brake lamps may fail to illuminate or may remain illuminated continuously.
Corrective action
Replace the switch with a corrected part on all vehicles.
