Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
The Primary Brake System — General is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 12 Mazda notifications from 2001 in this archive. For scale, 993 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 months.
Defect
In the brake system, improper manufacturing of the brake booster vacuum hose has left foreign material inside the hose's check valve. Continued use may cause the check valve to stick in the closed position, reducing vacuum to the brake booster and resulting in insufficient braking force.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the complete vacuum hose assembly, including the check valve, with a conforming unit.
