Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 7 Daihatsu notifications from 2000 in this archive. For scale, 1,132 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 months.
Defect
The electrical wiring for the engine control unit is improperly routed and contacts the bracket securing the evaporative emission control valve on some vehicles. Continued use can damage the wiring insulation, causing a short circuit that may, in the worst case, cause the engine to stall.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, add a hand clip to reroute the wiring correctly and install a protective tube. Repair any wiring with damaged insulation.
