Filing in context
The Seat Belt is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 55 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 3 Daihatsu notifications from 2001 in this archive. For scale, 4,275 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles.
Defect
The mounting nuts used to attach the intermediate guide anchor brackets for the driver and front passenger seat belts were manufactured with a thread pitch that does not match the mounting bolts. As a result, the joint between bolt and nut does not engage correctly. If an extreme load is applied to the belt during a collision, the bolt may pull free from the vehicle body, causing the seat belt to fail to restrain the occupant.
Corrective action
Inspect the mounting nuts on all vehicles. If a nut with an incorrect thread pitch is found, replace it with the correct nut and install a new bolt.
