Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 7 Daihatsu notifications from 2000 in this archive. For scale, 3,364 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 7 months.
Defect
The connector terminations on the audio relay wiring harness sold as a dealer-installed option are improperly processed. Continued use allows the connector terminals to contact metal parts of the vehicle and short circuit. In the worst case, the speedometer illumination and rear lighting may fail to illuminate.
Corrective action
Inspect all vehicles. Cut the affected terminals and protect them with insulating tape.
