Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Nissan.
The Accelerator is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 34 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 80 Mitsubishi notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 259 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 1 month.
Issue
The gap between the side member and the front-end cross member is improperly designed, allowing the accelerator cable to be routed through that gap. If the vehicle sustains a frontal collision—even a minor one—while the cable is routed through the gap, the accelerator cable may be damaged. Continued use in this condition increases the cable's sliding resistance and, in the worst case, the accelerator pedal may fail to return to its rest position.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the accelerator cable routing. If the cable is routed through the gap between the side member and the front-end cross member, replace the accelerator cable with the corrected part. If the cable is not routed through that gap, add a sponge pad to the accelerator cable.
