Filing in context
The Accelerator is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 34 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 3,653 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with an on-board portable crane, the crimp position of the push-pull cable that detects the position of the limit switch—a safety device that distinguishes between crane-operating and driving states—is improper. As a result, the system may fail to detect the OFF state even when the power is switched off. While driving with the cable in the OFF position, the limit switch may unexpectedly engage and redirect engine power to crane operation, cutting drive power to the tires and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the cable and replace any unit with a defective crimp with a corrected part.
