Filing in context
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Other (Occupant Equipment) as the affected component. This filing is one of 26 Toyota notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 755 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 2 months.
Issue
The gap between the child safety lock lever on the rear door and the body panel is too narrow. When the door is closed forcefully, the tip of the lever contacts the body panel and may move. As a result, the child safety lock may disengage even after being set to the locked position.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the child safety lock lever with a corrected part.
