Filing in context

The Seat Belt is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 55 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 8 Lexus notifications from 2022 in this archive. Defect
In replacement front seat belt assemblies equipped with a force limiter — a device that gradually releases belt tension during a collision to reduce chest load on the occupant while maintaining restraint at a defined level — inadequate manufacturing control of the shaft inside the retractor mechanism has produced units with incorrect geometry. When the force limiter activates in a collision, belt webbing payout increases beyond the intended amount, which may reduce occupant restraint.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the serial number of the affected seat belt and replace any confirmed unit with a conforming part.
