Issue

In the brake system, the reservoir tank vent hole is undersized. This causes negative pressure to develop inside the master cylinder reservoir tank in cold conditions. When the brake is applied under these conditions, small amounts of air may enter through the rubber seals inside the cylinder. Continued use causes the driver to feel reduced response during brake pedal operation, accompanied by abnormal noise. In the worst case, the brake warning lamp illuminates and brake pedal travel increases.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, bleed the brake hydraulic system and replace the reservoir tank cap with a corrected part that prevents negative pressure from developing.
