Filing in context
The Engine is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 72 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 32 Honda notifications from 2025 in this archive. For scale, 2,015 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 10 months.
Defect
Repeatedly decelerating with engine braking from high engine speeds can draw engine oil into the combustion chamber, where it burns and increases overall oil consumption. Continued operation under these conditions causes insufficient lubrication, producing abnormal noise. In the worst case, the engine may sustain damage while the vehicle is moving, causing the rear wheel to lock and the vehicle to fall.
Corrective action
As an immediate measure on all vehicles, inspect the engine oil level and replenish to the specified value if low, and repair the engine if any abnormality is found. Owners will be notified of the defect, cautioned to check engine oil levels regularly, and a caution label will be affixed to the vehicle. A permanent corrective measure will be implemented once determined.
