Defect

The piston and top ring were improperly designed, leaving an excessive gap between them. Repeated engine braking from high engine speeds draws engine oil into the combustion chamber, where it burns, increasing oil consumption. Insufficient lubrication causes abnormal noise. Continued use may result in engine damage while driving, causing the rear wheel to lock and the vehicle to fall, or leading to a vehicle fire.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the piston and top ring with corrected parts. Additionally, inspect the engine; if abnormal noise is present, replace the engine as an assembly.
