Defect
In the engine, improper process control during cylinder machining leaves the cylinder surface rough. While driving, engine oil is drawn up into the combustion chamber and burned, increasing oil consumption. Insufficient lubrication causes abnormal noise. Continued use may result in engine damage while driving, causing the rear wheel to lock and the vehicle to fall, or a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the engine. If an abnormality is found, replace with an engine sub-assembly containing a conforming cylinder. If abnormal noise is present, replace the complete engine assembly.
