Filing in context
The Computer (Engine) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 49 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 39 Mitsubishi notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 1,019 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
The engine ECU contains a control program with an error that allows excessive deposit buildup inside the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) circuit. The accumulated deposits restrict exhaust gas flow through the EGR circuit, causing the engine warning light to illuminate and disabling the engine idling stop function. Additionally, hardened deposits may break free and become lodged in the intake valves, causing an engine stall from which the engine cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine ECU with the corrected/updated software. Also replace the EGR cooler and related EGR components with new parts, or clean them as applicable.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 2 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
