Filing in context
The Exhaust pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 32 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 39 Mitsubishi notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 698 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 years and 1 month.
Defect
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) pipe attached to the exhaust manifold is improperly designed. Repeated thermal expansion and contraction of the exhaust manifold under heat loads generated during exhaust gas treatment system operation cause cracks to develop at the pipe's weld joints. As a result, exhaust gas may leak from the cracked weld area.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the exhaust manifold with a corrected part. Separate notification will be issued once parts are available.
