Defect
On large trucks, the tail pipe connected to the muffler is made of an inappropriate material. When deicing agents accumulate at the joint and the vehicle continues in service, the tail pipe at the joint corrodes and fractures. Exhaust gas escaping from the muffler outlet then melts the air tube, which in the worst case may cause reduced or total loss of brake force, sudden parking brake application, or transmission shift failure. Additionally, if the clamp securing the fractured tail pipe breaks, the tail pipe may fall onto the roadway and create a hazard for other traffic.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the tail pipe with a corrected part and replace the complete tail pipe securing clamp set with new components.

状況
大型トラックにおいて、消音器に結合されるテールパイプの材質が不適切なため、結合部に融雪剤等が残った状態で使用を続けると、結合部のテールパイプが腐食して破断し、消音器出口からの排気ガスによってエアチューブが溶損することがあり、最悪の場合、ブレーキ制動力の低下／失陥、突然の駐車ブレーキ作動、Ｔ／Ｍ の変速不良が生じるおそれがある。また、破断したテールパイプの固定用クランプが破損すると、テールパイプが落下して他の交通の安全に影響を及ぼすおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、テールパイプを対策品に交換すると共に、テールパイプ固定用クランプ一式を新品に交換する。
