Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 4 manufacturers: Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan & Suzuki.
The Fuel Tank is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 79 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 22 Mazda notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 545 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 11 months.
Defect
The fuel tank mounting points on the vehicle body have insufficient strength. Vibration during driving causes cracks to develop near those mounting points. Continued use allows the cracks to propagate, causing fuel to seep from the tank and, in the worst case, drip.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the fuel tank with a corrected part.
