Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
The Fuel Tank is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 79 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 19 Mazda notifications from 2019 in this archive. For scale, 1,275 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 months.
Defect
Insufficient cooling during resin molding of the fuel tank has caused molding defects in the fuel pump mounting threads, reducing the sealing performance at that location when the fuel pump is installed. When the tank is full, fuel may leak from the affected area.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the fuel tank with a conforming unit.
