Filing in context
The Other Device is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 43 Mitsubishi notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 2,102 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
During the manufacturing process of the LCD display power IC in the factory-installed navigation system, improper procedures allowed residual chemical solution—not used in normal production—to remain in the IC. During vehicle use, this causes an internal broken wire / disconnection in the IC, cutting power to the LCD display. As a result, the camera image for the close-proximity forward and left-side monitoring view is no longer displayed, and the vehicle no longer conforms to Safety Standards Article 44 (standards for mirrors and equivalent devices).
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the navigation system serial number and, where applicable, replace the navigation system with a non-defective unit.
