Filing in context
The Fuel pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 37 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Mitsubishi notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 908 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 3 months.
Defect
In the fuel pump impeller (resin impeller wheel), improper molding conditions reduce resin density, allowing the impeller to absorb fuel and swell, causing deformation. The deformed impeller contacts the pump cover, resulting in fuel pump malfunction. In the worst case, gasoline vehicles may experience an engine stall while driving, and PHEV vehicles may become inoperable when battery charge is depleted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the fuel pump module serial number; on affected units, replace the fuel pump with the corrected part. Owners will be notified again once parts become available.
