Defect

On hybrid vehicles, the cowl louver mounted at the rear of the engine compartment has an inadequate waterproofing design. During heavy rainfall, water drips onto the top of the engine and enters the combustion chamber through the injector mounting area. This causes the connecting rod to deform and produces abnormal noise. In the worst case, the engine may be damaged.

Corrective action

Apply sealant to the cowl louver according to its specification, and install a waterproof cover over the engine on all vehicles. Additionally, inspect the engine combustion chamber; if any abnormality is found, replace the engine with a new unit.

状況

ハイブリッド車において、エンジンルーム後部に取付けているカウルルーバの防水構造が不適切なため、集中豪雨など多量の雨水がかかった場合、水がエンジン上部に滴下して、インジェクタ取付け部から燃焼室に侵入することがある。そのため、コンロッドが変形して異音が発生し、最悪の場合、エンジンが破損するおそれがある。

改善措置

カウルルーバの仕様に応じてシール材を貼り付けるとともに、全車両、エンジンに防水カバーを追加する。また、エンジンの燃焼室を点検し、異常がある場合はエンジンを新品に交換する。
