Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Mazda, Nissan & Suzuki.
The (Fan) Belt is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 4 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 39 Mazda notifications from 2018 in this archive. For scale, 92 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 10 months.
Defect
The engine accessory belt design is inadequate, resulting in insufficient durability in affected belts. Belt resonance may cause the belt to fracture, stopping the alternator and water pump and illuminating a warning light. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving and cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the engine accessory belt with the corrected part.
