Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
This filing is one of 22 Mazda notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 155 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 2 months.
Issue
During manufacturing of the back door balancer, insufficient drying temperature in the internal cleaning process left residual wash water inside the balancer. This moisture causes internal rust, allowing the pressurized gas to gradually leak. In the worst case, the back door can no longer be held in the open position.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, the back door balancer is replaced with a conforming unit.
