Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 4 manufacturers: Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan & Suzuki.
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Clutch Cable/Related Component as the affected component. This filing is one of 39 Mazda notifications from 2018 in this archive. For scale, 210 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 6 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with an automated mechanical transmission (AGS), incorrect assembly instructions for the clutch cable anchor allow the anchor slot and the release fork slot to align, concentrating stress at the clamp section of the clutch cable. Repeated gear changes can cause the clutch cable to fracture, illuminating a warning light and leaving the vehicle unable to shift gears or move.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the clutch cable anchor. (1) If the clutch cable anchor slot and the release fork slot are aligned, replace the AGS actuator with a new unit and replace the clutch cable anchor with the corrected part. (2) If the slots are not aligned, replace the clutch cable anchor with the corrected part.
