Defect
On light-duty trucks, the side underrun protection device has mounting brackets that were improperly welded to the stays. The welds may separate, causing the side guard to detach from the stay. In the worst case, the side guard may fall from the vehicle.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the stay with a non-defective part.
