Defect
On large and medium-sized buses with independent front suspension, improper manufacturing of the center member allows water containing road de-icing agents to enter the interior of the center member, causing corrosion near the lower arm mounting points. Continued use allows the corrosion to progress and damage the center member. In the worst case, the lower arm may detach, resulting in loss of steering control.
Corrective action
Distribute a supplementary maintenance note to owners instructing them to periodically apply single-coat wax rustproofing to the interior of the center member, and carry out the following measures: (1) Vehicles that received interim treatment with single-coat wax rustproofing instead of replacement with an improved center member shall receive double-coat wax rustproofing. All other vehicles that received interim treatment shall have that treatment designated as the permanent measure. (2) Vehicles that have not received any interim treatment shall have an inspection access hole drilled into the center member; an endoscope shall then be used to inspect the internal corrosion condition. (a) If severe corrosion is found, replace the center member with an improved part. (b) If severe corrosion is not found, apply double-coat wax rustproofing.

状況
前輪独立懸架方式の大・中型バスにおいて、センターメンバーの製造が不適切なため、センターメンバー内部に融雪剤等を含んだ水が浸入し、ロアアーム取付部付近が腐食することがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、腐食が進行し、センターメンバーが破損して、最悪の場合、ロアアームが脱落して操舵不能となるおそれがある。
改善措置
使用者に、センターメンバー内部を定期的にシングルワックスで防錆措置する旨を記載したメンテナンスノートの追補版を配布すると共に、下記の措置を実施する。 ①暫定措置で改良品のセンターメンバーに交換せずにシングルワックスによる防錆措置 を実施した車両は、ダブルワックスによる防錆措置を実施する。それ以外の暫定措置 実施車両は、暫定措置を恒久措置とする。 ②暫定措置を実施していない車両は、センターメンバーに内部点検用の穴を開け、内視 鏡を用いて内部腐食状況の点検を行い、 (1)著しい腐食が認められた場合は、改良品のセンターメンバーに交換する。 (2)著しい腐食が認められなかった場合は、ダブルワックスによる防錆措置を実施す る。
