Overview

Defect

On trucks and buses equipped with headlamp-integrated turn signals, insufficient consideration during design results in inadequate contact pressure between the turn signal bulb socket and the headlamp-side contact ring terminals on some units. Repeated turn signal flashing causes an oxide film to form on the terminals. As the oxide film grows, the bulb socket and contact ring terminals burn and melt, causing the turn signal to stop illuminating.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, verify the headlamp serial number to determine whether a defective unit is installed, then inspect the turn signal bulb socket terminals. If burning or melting is found, replace the entire headlamp assembly with a corrected part. If no burning or melting is found, replace only the bulb socket with a corrected part.
