Filing in context
The Other (Electrical Equipment) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Honda notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 2,430 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 years and 1 month.
Defect
The bank angle sensor (a device that stops the engine in the event of a fall) has an improperly designed harness routing and retention method. On vehicles not equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), the joint connector mounting position is also incorrect. As a result, vibration during riding causes the harness to flex repeatedly at its exit point. Continued use may cause a broken wire in the harness, and in the worst case, the engine will stall and cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the bank angle sensor harness retention method is changed and the bank angle sensor is replaced with a corrected part. On non-ABS vehicles, the joint connector mounting position is also relocated.
