Filing in context

The Other (Electrical Equipment) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Honda notifications from 2011 in this archive. For scale, 253 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years.

Defect

The switch unit structure and resin material of the driver's side power window switch are improper. If silicone compounds found in interior cleaning products adhere to the switch contacts and the switch is operated repeatedly in this condition, wear debris from the contacts accumulates in the gap between the power supply and ground sections of the switch, generating heat. This causes the switch unit resin to carbonize and allows current to leak continuously. The solder within the switch unit may then melt, drip onto the outer cover, and produce smoke. In the worst case, the cover may catch fire.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the complete driver's side power window switch assembly with a corrected part.
