Filing in context
The Other (Electrical Equipment) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Honda notifications from 2011 in this archive. For scale, 1,498 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 9 months.
Defect
The driver-side power window switch unit is defective in both structural design and resin material. When silicone compounds from interior cleaning products adhere to the switch contacts and the switch is operated repeatedly, wear particles from the contacts accumulate in the gap between the power supply and ground sections, generating heat. This causes the resin material in the switch unit to carbonize and allows current to leak continuously. The resulting heat melts the solder in the switch unit, which drips onto the outer cover and produces smoke. In the worst case, the cover may catch fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the driver-side power window switch assembly with a corrected part.
