Filing in context
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Traction power supply (battery) as the affected component. This filing is one of 42 Nissan notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 1,624 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 months.
Defect
On hybrid vehicles, an inadequate inspection method for the harness connecting to the battery controller results in some connector terminals having excessive gap. Continued use allows driving vibration to cause poor contact at the connector. In the worst case, the engine and motor may shut down while driving, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the lithium-ion battery with a conforming unit.
