Defect
The CVT control computer in these hybrid vehicles contains an incorrect program. After the vehicle transitions to EV mode during deceleration and continues at extremely low speed, the computer may incorrectly determine that there is an abnormality in power transfer between the motor and the CVT. This causes the warning lamp to illuminate and the motor to shut down, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the CVT control computer with the corrected/updated software.
