Filing in context
The Computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 42 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 619 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 10 months.
Defect
Defective manufacturing of electronic components inside the ETACS ECU, which controls the headlights, wipers, and other functions, causes the resistance values of those components to increase. This destabilizes the internal voltage of the ETACS ECU. In the worst case, the ETACS ECU shuts down completely, causing the headlights to turn off while illuminated or the wipers to malfunction.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the ETACS ECU and, on affected units, replace the ETACS ECU with a good unit.
