Filing in context

This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & UD Trucks.

This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 2,557 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 7 months.

Defect

The heater hoses on large buses have insufficient strength, allowing internal reinforcement threads to break under water pressure. Continued use in this condition causes the hose to fail under water pressure, resulting in coolant leaking. This degrades defroster performance and may prevent the driver from maintaining adequate visibility through the windshield.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the affected heater hoses with corrected parts, and replace the hose clamps from one-touch type clamps to wire-type clamps.
