Defect
On heavy-duty trucks and buses, the high-pressure fuel pump has insufficient fuel film thickness to lubricate the contact surfaces between the tappet and roller and between the roller and cam. This causes wear on those sliding surfaces. The resulting reduction in pump stroke and fuel filter clogging from wear particles leads to inadequate fuel delivery, which may cause sudden engine stall or an inability to restart the engine.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the high-pressure fuel pump. If a defective unit is found, replace the complete high-pressure fuel pump assembly with the corrected part. If wear particles are found inside the fuel tank, replace the complete fuel filter assembly with a new unit and clean the return-side fuel line between the high-pressure fuel pump and the fuel tank.

状況
大型トラック・バスの高圧燃料ポンプにおいて、タペットとローラー間およびローラーとカム間を潤滑する燃料膜厚が不足しているため、これらの摺動面に摩耗が生じることがある。このため、ポンプストロークの減少や摩耗粉による燃料フィルターの詰まりが生じて燃料の供給が不十分になり、突然のエンジンストールや再始動不能に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、高圧燃料ポンプを点検し、不具合品が装着されていた場合は対策品の高圧燃料ポンプ一式に交換する。また、燃料タンク内に摩耗粉が認められた場合は、燃料フィルター一式を新品に交換すると共に、高圧燃料ポンプから燃料タンク間の戻り側燃料ラインの清掃を実施する。
