Defect
In the transmission of hybrid-specification buses, an improper manufacturing process for the ball bearings inside the gear shift unit causes those bearings to fail. Continued operation produces shift malfunctions and, in the worst case, the transmission locks in gear and the vehicle cannot move.
Corrective action
Replace the gear shift unit on all vehicles with a conforming unit.
