Defect
In engines used in heavy-duty trucks, the engine control program governing DPD (Diesel Particulate Device) regeneration is incorrect, causing piston temperatures to rise excessively. The elevated thermal load causes cracks to form in the pistons. Continued operation allows the cracks to progress until the piston is perforated, resulting in reduced engine output and white smoke from the exhaust. In the worst case, the vehicle becomes inoperable.
Corrective action
Reprogram the engine control software on all vehicles and replace the thermostat and oil thermo valve with corrected parts. In addition, review vehicle operating data and, on vehicles that have experienced high load frequency, inspect the pistons. Any engine found to have cracked pistons is to be replaced with a corrected unit.

状況
大型トラック用エンジンにおいて、ＤＰＤ（粒子状物質除去装置）再生時のエンジン制御プログラムが不適切なため、ピストンの温度が高くなり、ピストンに過大な負荷がかかり、亀裂が生じるものがある。そのため、そのまま使用を続けると亀裂が進行し、ピストンに穴が開き、エンジン出力の低下及び白煙を排出し、最悪の場合、走行不能に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、エンジン制御プログラムを書き換え、サーモスタット、オイルサーモバルブを対策品に交換する。また、車両走行データを確認し、負荷及びその頻度の高い車両はピストンを点検し、亀裂のあるものはエンジンを対策品に交換する。
