Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Lexus & Toyota.
The Service brake — general is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 16 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 3 Lexus notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 407 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 months.
Defect
The accumulator in the electronic brake system was designed with insufficient consideration of structural strength. Vertical vibration during driving can impose excessive stress on a portion of the accumulator vessel. Over time, fatigue cracks develop in the vessel, allowing nitrogen gas to gradually infiltrate the brake fluid inside. This increases brake pedal travel and reduces braking force.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the accumulator. On affected units, replace the brake booster pump assembly with a unit incorporating the corrected accumulator.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 2 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
